Reports indicate that complications arose during the delivery, leading to severe bleeding. The newborn reportedly died shortly after birth. Adesuwa’s brother filed a report with the police, prompting the arrest of the prophetess.
Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that Adekola had been taken into custody and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further questioning. “The case was reported by the deceased’s brother, who informed us that his sister died after childbirth in the church. The prophetess is now in custody, and investigations are ongoing,” Odunlami said.
According to a family source quoted by The PUNCH, the family was initially notified of the delivery by a call from the church to Adesuwa’s husband, informing him that his wife had given birth. However, upon arriving at the church with another relative, they found Adesuwa in critical condition.
“When we arrived, we were told the baby had died during delivery, but Adesuwa was still alive. However, she was lying in a pool of blood and bleeding heavily. We immediately took her to a nearby hospital,” the source recalled. The family member further explained that three hospitals turned them away due to her critical state. Sadly, Adesuwa passed away at the final hospital as doctors attempted to revive her.
Afterward, when the family returned to the church to retrieve the newborn’s remains, they reportedly found the baby’s body in a room described as unfit for delivery. The family subsequently filed a report at the Oke-Aro Police Station, which led to the prophetess’s arrest. Adesuwa’s body has since been transferred to a mortuary.
