Atiku secured a total of 1,846,370 votes, defeating former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, who garnered 504,117 votes. The results were officially announced following the collation of votes from delegates across the country.

In his acceptance speech, Atiku expressed deep appreciation for the mandate, describing it as an honour to lead the ADC into the upcoming elections. He said he was humbled by the confidence placed in him and praised the party for conducting a transparent and democratic process.

He contrasted the ADC’s internal democracy with what he described as declining democratic standards in the country, insisting that the party remains a platform where members can freely express their ambitions and compete fairly.

Atiku also spoke about the formation of a coalition within the party, saying it was built through sacrifice and a shared goal of “rescuing Nigeria’s democracy” from growing threats.

He further alleged that opposition parties are facing intimidation, leadership crises, and harassment, claiming that some figures have been targeted for political reasons. He warned against what he described as attempts to weaken opposition parties through state institutions.

The ADC flagbearer also accused the ruling establishment of using security agencies to pressure opposition politicians, while calling for an end to what he termed abuse of power and selective justice.

Congratulating his fellow contestants, Atiku said the race was driven by patriotism and concern for Nigeria’s future, noting that the country is facing serious economic and security challenges.

He urged unity within the party, stressing that the real task ahead is to focus on winning the general election and addressing the nation’s difficulties.

Atiku also thanked the primary election committee, party leadership, stakeholders, and supporters for ensuring a peaceful and transparent process, adding that the party must now prepare for the “hard work” of the national campaign ahead.
