While addressing supporters and PDP members in Potiskum, Yobe State on Friday, Waziri denied rumours of his defection to the APC. He clarified that although he’s part of the coalition talks, he is doing so as a patriotic Nigerian and not as a representative of any specific party.
“The PDP is currently facing serious internal challenges. Leadership issues have hindered its role as a strong opposition party. It needs urgent restructuring to be positioned as a credible alternative come 2027,” Waziri said.
He dismissed the defection claims, reiterating his loyalty to the PDP and emphasizing that his coalition involvement stems from a desire to help build a strong political alliance that can field capable candidates in the next general election.
“I am still with the PDP. The rumours of my defection to the APC are false. My role in these talks is based on my democratic right as a citizen who wants the best for Nigeria. I’m part of discussions that involve members of various parties and political groups looking to create a united front ahead of 2027,” he said.
Waziri assured party loyalists in Yobe State that he would ensure they are carried along in any political moves. “I value the support I enjoy within and beyond the PDP in Yobe, and I’m here to keep everyone informed, so no one feels left out when key decisions are made,” he added.
On resolving the PDP’s leadership crisis, Waziri stressed the importance of sticking to the party’s constitution. “The rules are clear—when the national chairman steps down or is removed, the deputy from the same zone should step in in an acting capacity until a new nominee emerges,” he concluded.
