Ringim formally announced his defection on Saturday during his registration with the ADC in Ringim Local Government Area, where a large crowd of supporters gathered to witness the event.

Addressing the gathering, the former NNPP chieftain said his decision was driven by the need to work with like-minded political actors to tackle Nigeria’s growing challenges, including insecurity, inflation, hunger and unemployment. He argued that only a united opposition could help “rescue” the country from its current difficulties.

According to him, Nigerians must unite to confront what he described as widespread hardship and suffering under the current administration. He also urged residents of Jigawa State and his supporters to register with the ADC, stressing that a strong opposition platform would be needed to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

Ringim dismissed speculation that the ADC coalition would collapse after its primaries, insisting the alliance would remain intact. He said similar doubts had been raised about opposition figures such as Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso and Atiku Abubakar working together, but those predictions had proven wrong.

“They said Obi, Kwankwaso and Atiku would never unite, but they have. Now they claim ADC will fall apart after the primaries, but that will not happen,” he said. “We have agreed to put the interest of our state and country first and work together to bring positive change.”

He added that ADC leaders in Jigawa and across Nigeria had resolved to support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate after the primaries, noting that unity remains central to the coalition’s strategy.

Ringim also disclosed that over 15 million Nigerians had already registered with the ADC, with plans to add another 30 million members nationwide before the 2027 elections. He expressed confidence that the party could offer Nigerians a better future.

A longstanding opposition figure in Jigawa, Ringim previously contested the state governorship election in 2015 and 2023 under the NNPP platform.
