According to him, while the APC focused on mobilising supporters, building structures, and planning strategically, other parties were not taking politics seriously.

“Sometimes people turn themselves into comedians even though they are in the political arena,” he said.

He noted that despite the election being held two weeks ago, opposition parties were still alleging that the process was not free and fair simply because they suffered heavy defeats.

“Before the election, they claimed the FCT polls would be a signpost for 2027. Out of 62 councillorship seats, they didn’t win one. Out of six chairmanship positions, they didn’t secure a single seat,” Basiru stated, adding that the APC also clinched two bye-elections conducted the same day in Rivers and Kano states.

He disclosed that President Tinubu had instructed him to ensure residents in satellite towns felt the tangible impact of governance.

“Let’s be honest. If we had focused only on the city, who would have defeated this government in the FCT election? Historically, ruling parties struggle in the city because residents are vocal but often do not turn out to vote,” Wike said.

He emphasised the importance of extending development efforts to underserved communities, noting that areas such as Karu, Kabusa, and Wasa witnessed strong voter turnout due to visible government projects.

“The President said we must go to the satellite towns and let them feel the presence of government. And we did. When you visit these communities, you see the enthusiasm of the people. That’s where the votes came from,” he added.
