Power Shift Controversy: Okonkwo Opens 2027 Presidential Race To All Zones
Kenneth Okonkwo, a prominent member of the emerging political coalition aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, has revealed that the coalition’s presidential ticket will not be restricted to any specific region.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Okonkwo, who previously served as the spokesperson for Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi during the 2023 elections, made this known during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
The Nollywood actor-turned-politician emphasized that the presidential race within the coalition will be open to aspirants from both the North and South, with no one barred from vying for the ticket.
According to Okonkwo, opening the ticket to all zones is the most prudent approach, as political figures have proven to be unreliable—even when they commit to serving a single term.
In his words:
“I’ve made it clear—no one will be prevented from contesting for the coalition’s presidential ticket. Politicians have become difficult to trust, even if they pledge to serve only one term. If a Southerner underperforms, like Tinubu, and another Southerner is selected, they may stay for eight years. The North will see that as unfair. Nobody will support Tinubu continuing, given his performance.”
“So, the best solution is to keep the ticket open. When the most capable candidate emerges, everyone can rally behind them, with the understanding that they’ll serve only one term.”
Okonkwo also expressed reservations about the possibility of certain political figures—including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi—becoming the coalition’s flag bearer, indicating his preference for a fresh alternative.
