President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Seeks N500 Billion Approval from House of Representatives to Mitigate Fuel Subsidy Removal Effects
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted a letter to the House of Representatives, requesting the approval of N500 billion to alleviate the consequences of fuel subsidy removal. During Wednesday’s plenary, Speaker of the House, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, read the president’s letter of request. The letter, titled “Request for the amendment of the 2022 appropriation act,” states, “I write to request the approval of the House of Representatives for an amendment of the 2022 appropriation act in accordance with the law.
“The request is necessary to secure funds to provide essential palliatives aimed at mitigating the impact of the recent removal of fuel subsidy in Nigeria.
“The sum of N500 billion has been extracted from the 2022 appropriation act of N819.536 billion for the provision of palliatives to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians. I anticipate that the House will promptly consider the request.”
Abbas further mentioned that the House will deliberate on the President’s request during Thursday’s plenary session.
