Pa Oghoroko was arrested between August 18 and 20, 2024, alongside other community leaders, including Prof. Arthur Ekpekpo, Chief Belvis Adogbo, and Pa Dennis Okugbaye. Their arrests followed a violent incident in the community that resulted in the deaths of 17 soldiers, leading the military to take action.

In response to the arrests, the Okuama community filed a lawsuit against the Nigerian Army, seeking N100 million in compensation for illegal detention.

During the most recent court sitting on November 20, 2024, the Federal High Court had adjourned the bail application of the detained leaders until December 9, 2024, for a hearing. Tragically, Pa Oghoroko died just days before the scheduled bail hearing.

The news of his death has shocked and deeply saddened the Okuama community, prompting widespread grief and anger. In the wake of this tragedy, community leaders convened an emergency meeting to address the situation.

Olorogun Albert Akpomudje, the lead counsel for the detained community leaders, expressed his sorrow over the loss. “This is truly disturbing news. I will meet with family members and my team to determine our next steps,” he said.
