In a statement issued on Tuesday by the State House Director of Information and Public Relations, Abiodun Oladunjoye, it was disclosed that the President authorised Oyedepo’s transfer from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the Federal Ministry of Justice as part of the mainstream Federal Civil Service.
A letter dated December 23 and signed by Omolabake Mafe on behalf of the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission stated that the appointment was made in the public interest.
Oyedepo will assume the role of DPP to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Abubakar Babadoko, who is expected to complete the mandatory eight-year tenure as a director on December 31, 2025.
According to the statement, Oyedepo is a 2007 graduate of Law from the University of Ilorin and was called to the Bar after attending the Nigerian Law School in 2008.
He is expected to apply his vast experience to reduce the government’s reliance on external legal counsel in major prosecutions and to enhance coordination and consistency in the Federal Government’s legal strategies.
Prior to his appointment, Oyedepo spent over 15 years at the EFCC, where he specialised in prosecuting complex economic and financial crimes and served as Head of the Monitoring Unit.
He was also part of the Federal Government’s legal team in the high-profile Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) case against Nigeria. His career has been marked by several recognitions, including EFCC Outstanding Staff of the Year in 2014 and Best Financial Crimes Prosecutor in 2019.
