According to reports, Prof. Pate has dispatched a team to evaluate the proposed site in Ondo, led by Dr. Jimoh Olawole Salaudeen, Director of Hospital Services at the Federal Ministry of Health. The team inspected both the FUTA campus, designated for the permanent hospital, and the Akure Annex of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH), which will serve as a temporary facility.
Dr. Salaudeen confirmed the project’s urgency, highlighting that FUTA’s medical students, currently in their third year, will soon require practical training opportunities. He expressed satisfaction with the infrastructure available at the proposed sites and praised the local community’s support for the initiative.
The Ondo State Health Commissioner, Dr. Banji Ajaka, emphasized the state’s dedication to the project, noting that an MOU has been drafted to ensure that medical students complete their training on time. FUTA’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, welcomed the development, relieved that the federal government has addressed the issue of clinical training for medical students.
The new teaching hospital is expected to significantly contribute to medical education and the local healthcare system, aligning with FUTA’s mission to foster innovation in biomedical engineering and healthcare.
