President Bola Tinubu has urged Carlos Jose Areias, the newly appointed Brazilian Ambassador to Nigeria, to prioritize establishing direct flights between Nigeria and Brazil. In a statement from his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s dedication to enhancing bilateral relations with Brazil and expressed interest in collaborating on global matters as Brazil prepares to lead the G20 in 2024.

“We have a rich history of cultural and bilateral ties with Brazil. I encourage you to view Nigeria as a second home and explore its vast economic opportunities,” President Tinubu said. “I have discussed potential investments in dairy farming with Brazilian partners and am eager to advance these opportunities.”

Ambassador Areias responded by expressing President Lula’s eagerness to host President Tinubu at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro on November 18-19, 2024. He also extended an invitation for Nigeria to join the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty.

“I am committed to improving Brazil-Nigeria relations,” Areias stated. “The trade volume between our countries was around $10 billion a decade ago, and I aim to exceed that figure. Africa, and particularly Nigeria, is a key priority for President Lula.”

In a separate engagement, President Tinubu received the Letter of Credence from Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Vice-Admiral Seth Amoama (retd.), and praised Ghana for its active role in ECOWAS. He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening ties with Ghana.

Additionally, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris called for greater cooperation between Chinese and Nigerian media in combating fake news. He made this appeal during the launch of the documentary “Traverse China with Me” at the China Cultural Centre in Abuja, emphasizing the importance of accurate reporting and cultural exchange to strengthen bilateral relations.

Idris also encouraged Chinese media outlets to expand their presence in Nigeria by incorporating local languages, which would enhance communication and create job opportunities.
