Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has extended clemency to 33 inmates across various correctional facilities within the state, as disclosed by the Information Officer of the Yobe State Ministry of Justice, Alhassan Sule Mamudo, on Wednesday in Damaturu, according to Naija News.

Governor Buni’s decision stems from recommendations put forth by the Yobe State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, chaired by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Saleh Samanja. The council conducted assessments at correctional facilities in Potiskum, Nguru, and Gashu’a to determine deserving candidates for executive pardons.

Saleh Samanja elaborated on the process, stating, “We visited all the correctional facilities in the state to ascertain who merits the executive pardon. Following meticulous deliberations, the advisory council compiled a list of 33 inmates for consideration by His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni, the Executive Governor of Yobe State. His Excellency graciously approved their release, granting them freedom through his executive order.”

In addition to the pardons, Governor Buni also sanctioned the distribution of food palliatives to all correctional facilities across the state, ensuring that inmates can partake in the blessings of the Ramadan season. This gesture reflects the essence of forgiveness, compassion, and communal support synonymous with the holy month.
