Contrary to popular beliefs, Fashola emphasized, “The benefit I get, I think, is N577,000 monthly pension from Lagos State. That’s all I get.” He firmly denied the allegations circulating about him amassing significant wealth after leaving office. The former Lagos governor stressed that his sole consistent income is the aforementioned pension.
When probed about additional benefits from the federal government, Fashola unequivocally responded with a “no.” This clarification puts an end to any misconceptions about his financial status and aligns with his previous stance on not needing a specific title to serve.
Addressing the issue of dispensing advice to current public office holders, Fashola refrained from offering directives but urged them to “remain true and authentic” in their roles. This insightful perspective from the seasoned public servant comes as a reminder of the importance of integrity in public service.
In a statement back in September 2023, Fashola had expressed that he doesn’t require an official position to serve, highlighting his commitment to public service over titles. This recent disclosure reiterates his dedication to transparency and dispels any unfounded rumors surrounding his financial circumstances post-office.
