This announcement was made by Ekpo Nta, Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC), during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday. Nta stated that the revision followed the enactment of the Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024 and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with labor leaders.
He explained that the salary review will also benefit workers under various salary structures, including the Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Universities Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS), and Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure II (CONTISS II). Additionally, the revision will apply to those under the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS), Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS), and the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS).
Other beneficiaries include employees under the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS), Consolidated Paramilitary Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICSS), and the Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).
“This adjustment follows the enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024 and the MoU reached by the committee on consequential adjustments in salaries resulting from this act,” Nta said.
The MoU, reached on September 20 between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Trade Union sides of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council, ensures that the new salary structure will be effective from July 29, 2024.
It is worth recalling that President Bola Tinubu signed the minimum wage bill into law on July 29, raising the country’s minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000.
