In a statement released on Wednesday, George-Kelly announced his decision and pledged full support to whoever emerges as the APC candidate.

His withdrawal came only hours after Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, also stepped down from the APC governorship primary race.

George-Kelly explained that his decision followed a crucial stakeholders’ meeting organised by the APC national leadership, where discussions centred on the future of the party in Rivers State, unity among members, and strategic political alignment ahead of the 2027 elections.

The aspirant, who identified himself as a loyal member of the Rivers State Rainbow Coalition for President Bola Tinubu under the leadership of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, said he arrived at the decision after extensive consultations with his political associates and key stakeholders.

“Following that meeting, and after broad consultations with members of my political structure and other relevant stakeholders, I have decided, in the interest of party unity and respect for the supremacy of the party, to withdraw from the forthcoming primaries,” he stated.

He further declared his loyalty to the APC and promised to work with and support the eventual governorship candidate of the party.

“I hereby formally announce my withdrawal from the race and pledge my total support, loyalty, and cooperation to whoever emerges as the party’s flag bearer after the primaries,” he added.

George-Kelly’s withdrawal is seen as part of ongoing political realignments and consultations within the Rivers APC as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

He maintained that his political career has always been guided by loyalty, leadership, and respect for constituted authority, while reaffirming his commitment to the APC and President Bola Tinubu’s political agenda in Rivers State.

“The 2027 general elections present a critical opportunity, and I remain fully committed to contributing toward victory for our President, our party, and the people of Rivers State,” the statement added.

He also urged his supporters and members of the coalition to remain united and continue working for the growth of both Rivers State and the APC.
