Fubara made this statement shortly after signing the ₦1.1 trillion 2025 budget at the state house in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

Defending his decision to present the 2025 budget to just three lawmakers, Fubara asserted that the 27 members of the State House of Assembly who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress have permanently lost their seats. He emphasized that there is no chance for these 27 lawmakers, who are loyal to Wike, to return to the Assembly.

The governor dismissed claims of a factional Assembly, declaring that the three-member Assembly, led by Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo, is the only legitimate legislative body.

Fubara explained, “Let me clarify, for those still confused about the situation. We have only one Assembly, and it is headed by Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo.”

He continued with a metaphor, “A group of friends set out on a journey nine months ago, but halfway, they realized they were heading into a dangerous situation. Now, they want to retreat. It’s too late for that; we’ve given them enough chances. No governor in Nigeria can endure the kind of insults I have received from that group.”

Fubara reaffirmed that his focus is on the interests of Rivers State and ensuring the integrity of governance, stating, “Our primary goal is to defend the interests of Rivers State, and we will continue to uphold the integrity of governance. We have moved on.”

He further pledged to build on the administration’s accomplishments, saying, “In 2025, we will exceed the record of performance we achieved in 2024.”

Fubara expressed gratitude to the Rivers State House of Assembly for their diligent work and commitment, adding, “I appreciate the hard work done to ensure we hit the ground running this New Year.”

He also commended the State Executive Council, particularly the Deputy Governor, for their support and cooperation, and thanked the Commissioners for Finance and Budget, as well as the acting Chairman of the Rivers State Internal Revenue Board, for their contributions.

“We have a bigger task ahead of us, and we must deliver on the promises we made to the people—especially in education, health, and agriculture. Just as we’ve made an impact in infrastructure, we aim to do the same in these critical areas,” Fubara stated.

He concluded by assuring the people of Rivers State, “We will continue to protect, defend, and promote the interests of our dear state.”
