Nigeria sealed the round-of-16 win on Monday night, with Osimhen scoring twice, while Lookman and Akor Adams also found the net to book the team’s place in the quarter-finals.

Tensions flared in the second half after Lookman failed to convert a chance, prompting a confrontation between him and Osimhen before other players intervened to restore calm.

Osimhen was later seen gesturing toward the bench for a substitution and was eventually replaced by Moses Simon.

Reacting on Tuesday during the Arise News Global Sports Update, Oseni questioned Osimhen’s conduct and criticised what he described as an unnecessary display of arrogance.

He argued that Lookman’s achievements are on par with Osimhen’s, noting that both players have won the African Footballer of the Year award.

“With all due respect, they say Osimhen wants to go to Turkey—then he should go. What nonsense attitude is this?” Oseni said. “What Ademola Lookman has achieved, you have also achieved. You are both African Footballers of the Year. Why behave like this?”

Oseni further called for disciplinary measures, insisting that Osimhen should apologise to his teammate before being considered for future selection.

“This is how discipline is enforced. The only way Osimhen should return to the team is after he apologises to his teammate,” he added.

He also condemned Osimhen’s reported reaction after the incident, alleging that the striker threw his accreditation and expressed a desire to leave the team.

“What he should apologise for is throwing his accreditation and saying, ‘I’m done, I want to go to Turkey.’ If that’s the case, they should charter a private jet for him,” Oseni said.

The Arise TV anchor concluded by stressing that no player is bigger than the team, warning Osimhen against seeing himself as irreplaceable.

“Are you God? If they go on to win the Nations Cup without him—which I hope they do—then he will realise that no one is indispensable. People were here before you, and others will come after,” he stated.
