Obasanjo made this claim in a video obtained by Daily Sun, where he was seen conversing with House of Representatives member, Ikenga Ugochinyere. Ugochinyere had denied reports that federal lawmakers were each paid $200,000 to support the emergency rule, stating, “Nobody gave anyone $200,000. That is just what I want to correct.”
However, Obasanjo stood firm in his assertion, claiming that he had firsthand knowledge of the payments. He stated, “You can deny it, but I heard it directly from the source. They told me they got the money. If you didn’t receive it, maybe your case is different, but don’t tell me what I know. Most of your colleagues who received it told me they got it.”
This revelation comes after a previous denial by Mukhtar Betara, Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who dismissed claims of cash bribes being given to lawmakers to secure their support for the emergency declaration.
