At Badagry General Hospital, Baby Echo-Harry, a male weighing 3.6kg, arrived at 12:04 am. Meanwhile, at the Maternal and Child Centre, Amuwo-Odofin, Mrs Salaudeen delivered twins through a caesarean section. The first child, a male, arrived at 12:07 am, weighing 3.0kg, and the second child, also a male, was born at 12:09 am, weighing 3.05 kg.
Ajeromi General Hospital saw Baby Balogun, a male, as the first arrival at 12:01 am, weighing 2.9 kg, while Apapa General Hospital welcomed Baby Rafiu, a male, at 12:38 am, weighing 2.6 kg.
Expressing joy and gratitude at the birth of these babies, Sanwo-Olu conveyed her felicitations to the parents and healthcare teams. She emphasized the significance of newborns as symbols of blessings, hope, new beginnings, and the resilience of life.
The First Lady praised the Lagos State Government’s commitment, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in delivering maternal and child health policies and programs. She highlighted the government’s efforts in upgrading and constructing new Maternal and Child Care (MCC) facilities to provide accessible and affordable healthcare services, thereby reducing morbidity and mortality rates among women and children.
Sanwo-Olu reiterated the government’s dedication to creating an environment where every child can thrive, access quality healthcare, and emphasized the use of modern technology and motivated healthcare workers to achieve this goal.
Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, expressed gratitude for the annual event, highlighting its importance in promoting maternal and child health across Lagos. He emphasized the government’s commitment to reducing maternal, neonatal, and child mortality rates, citing the establishment of 11 modern maternal and child care centers equipped with advanced facilities and skilled healthcare professionals to ensure quality service delivery.
