In an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Abe had foreshadowed his move back to the APC, stating, “Politically, I am heading back for the APC.” Despite being an ally of President Tinubu, Abe faced defeat in the Rivers State governorship election on March 18, losing to Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

While addressing the crisis in the state and the defection of 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly from the PDP to the APC, Abe advocated for peace. He highlighted the agreement between the lawmakers and the governor for temporary membership in the APC. However, he acknowledged external forces contesting the defection in court, emphasizing the need for peace in the state.
