Senate Leader Responds To Claims Of Altercation With AkpabioSenator Opeyemi Bamidele, the Leader of the Senate, has strongly rejected allegations that he was involved in a physical altercation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The claims, shared by Jackson Ude on X, suggested that Bamidele and Akpabio had a confrontation in the Senate cafeteria, with the Senate Leader reportedly accusing Akpabio of marginalizing lawmakers from the South by giving key committee positions to his associates in the North.

In a prompt response, Senator Bamidele’s media team issued a statement dismissing the allegations as false and baseless. Bamidele described Ude as a “serial blackmailer” and a “cash-and-carry” journalist, emphasizing that there was no physical fight between him and Akpabio on Wednesday.

“For the record, it is a verifiable fact that Senator Bamidele has never been involved in any physical altercation in over two decades of his political career, not even during his time as President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS),” the statement read.

Bamidele further criticized Ude’s report, accusing him of using sensationalist tactics and unprofessional conduct to tarnish his reputation. He also suggested that the false claims were part of an agenda to sow discord within the Senate and destabilize the political system.

The statement also pointed to the fact that, shortly after the alleged incident, Bamidele, Akpabio, and other Senate leaders hosted the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. YU Dunhai, and his delegation. Photos of the meeting were published in major national newspapers, further debunking Ude’s narrative. Additionally, Bamidele and Akpabio were seen leaving the National Assembly together, which the lawmaker pointed to as further evidence that the accusations were unfounded.

In closing, Bamidele warned those spreading such misinformation, stating that he would take legal action under the CyberCrime Act 2015 to protect himself and his office from further defamation. He urged the public to ignore the false report, asserting that the 10th Senate remains a united body, unshaken by such attempts to create division.
