Sh*ck Defeat: Moghalu Explains Why He Lost His Own Polling Unit To Soludo
The Labour Party (LP) candidate in the recently concluded Anambra State governorship election, George Moghalu, has attributed his defeat at his own polling unit to widespread vote-buying allegedly orchestrated by rival parties.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Moghalu, who lost to the incumbent governor, Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), managed to secure only 22 votes, while Soludo polled 57 votes at the same polling unit.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Moghalu lamented that he could not compete financially with candidates who “had too much money to buy votes.”
According to him, many impoverished voters succumbed to monetary inducements, despite his personal refusal to participate in such practices.
He said, “I couldn’t afford how much was being paid. I refused to pay and refused to get involved in vote-buying. They had too much money to buy votes, and what do you expect my people to do? Many of them are poor.”
The LP flag bearer further accused APGA of being the chief offender, claiming that several of its agents were caught purchasing votes, including a serving commissioner allegedly filmed engaging in the act.
He maintained that the election results did not truly reflect the will of Anambra voters, insisting he could have emerged victorious if the process had been free and fair.
Governor Charles Soludo was declared winner for a second term after securing victory across all 21 local government areas, according to official results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.
