“Do you realize that Igbos living in Lagos are routinely denied the right to vote?” he asked. “This isn’t unique to this election—it happens every time. Igbo residents are deliberately excluded from contesting for positions such as Local Government Chairman or Councillor. Despite our major contributions to the state’s economic and political development, we face constant marginalization. At best, you find one or two Igbos serving as Vice Chairmen in some local governments.”

Aguene emphasized that the absence of equity, justice, and fairness in the system shows Nigeria lacks true democratic governance. “What we have is a system where opportunists seize power. That’s why voter apathy is high in Lagos and across Nigeria—people are tired of voting for those who don’t represent them,” he said.

He further stressed that Igbos, who invest significantly in Lagos, deserve to be fairly represented in governance. “Leadership in Nigeria is controlled by a privileged few, while the majority, including workers, journalists, and security personnel, struggle to provide basic needs for their families. The situation in Nigeria is truly dire,” he concluded.
