Two High Courts in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have issued separate summonses to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Deputy Senate Chief Whip Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi in response to serious allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The suspended lawmaker representing Kogi Central has filed multiple legal actions accusing the Senate leaders of sexual harassment, defamation, and violating her fundamental human rights. She also claims they orchestrated her controversial suspension from the National Assembly in a deliberate effort to tarnish her reputation.

In case number FCT/HC/CV/754/2025, Justice Abubakar Idris Kutigi granted Akpoti-Uduaghan permission to serve legal documents — including writs of summons and statements of claim — to Senate President Akpabio, his senior aide Mfon Patrick, and the Clerk of the National Assembly. The application was filed by her lawyer, U.J. Udoh, and supported by an affidavit sworn by Hamzat Mogaji of Victor Giwa & Associates. The judge scheduled June 9, 2025, for an update on service of the documents.

Separately, in suit number FCT/HC/CV/1359/25, Justice A.O. Otaluka approved substituted service on Senator Nwaebonyi, following submissions from Akpoti-Uduaghan’s counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Michael J. Numa. The next hearing is set for June 25, 2025.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is demanding ₦5 billion in damages from Nwaebonyi over statements he made during a March 6, 2025, interview on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily. During the broadcast, he allegedly claimed that Akpoti-Uduaghan had six children from different fathers and was forced into marriage by her husband, Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan. He also labeled her a “gold digger,” “compulsive liar,” and “blackmailer” — comments she argues were false, malicious, and designed to portray her as deceitful and manipulative.

She further accused Nwaebonyi — who is a member of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions — of making the defamatory remarks to sway public opinion and sabotage her ongoing petition before the Senate.

Currently serving a six-month Senate suspension, which she has repeatedly called unlawful and politically charged, Akpoti-Uduaghan is also suing Senate President Akpabio. In that suit, she alleges he sexually harassed her and that his aide, Mfon Patrick, defamed her publicly.

She is seeking ₦100 billion in general damages and ₦300 million in legal costs, along with a perpetual injunction preventing Akpabio, Nwaebonyi, or their associates from making further defamatory or damaging statements against her.
