The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka, has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of spreading false information regarding the process that led to the selection of the vice-presidential candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Olayinka also criticized Atiku for allegedly lying during the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Olayinka responded to Atiku’s claims made during an interview, where the former Vice President stated that a PDP committee had ranked former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as the top choice for the party’s vice-presidential candidate, with Wike ranked second and former Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel in third place. Atiku claimed that his decision to choose Okowa was based on the committee’s recommendation.

However, Olayinka disputed Atiku’s account, questioning how someone with only two votes could be ranked higher than another candidate with 13 votes.

“It is unfortunate that Atiku could not respect the Holy Month of Ramadan and refrain from telling lies,” Olayinka said, emphasizing that the committee report had clearly placed Wike as the first choice with 13 votes, while Okowa only received two votes.

Olayinka further explained that Wike did not put himself forward to be Atiku’s running mate. Instead, Atiku made the choice independently and then offered the position to Wike under certain conditions, which the FCT Minister accepted.

“The committee set up by the PDP recommended Wike as Atiku’s running mate. However, for reasons best known to him, Atiku opted for Okowa, despite the latter having only two votes from the committee members,” Olayinka stated.

He called on Atiku to be truthful about his decision instead of attempting to mislead the public. “That’s the truth Atiku should acknowledge and uphold, rather than trying to justify his choice with falsehood,” Olayinka concluded.

Olayinka also reminded Atiku of the importance of honesty during the holy month of Ramadan, citing a Hadith from Al-Bukhari, where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) warned against lying, stating: “Whoever does not give up false speech and acting upon it, and ignorance, Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) has no need of him giving up his food and drink.”
