According to Vanguard, the meeting, set for 3 p.m. on Friday, will also have in attendance officials of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), government ministers, and other key stakeholders.

The development comes just days after Dangote management and NUPENG signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the DSS headquarters in Abuja, pledging to allow workers the freedom to join any union of their choice without interference. The agreement was witnessed by the NLC, the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and top government representatives.

However, less than 24 hours later, NUPENG accused Dangote of reneging on the deal—an allegation the company swiftly denied. On Friday morning, the union doubled down, accusing the refinery of being “economical with the truth.”

In a statement signed by NUPENG President Prince Williams Akporeha and General Secretary Afolabi Olawale, the union accused Dangote of misrepresenting facts about its dealings with workers.

“The press release by Dangote Petroleum Refinery dated September 11, 2025, clearly shows the company’s intent to crush NUPENG, stifle competition, and ultimately manipulate fuel prices in the long run,” the statement alleged.

It further dismissed claims of a split within its ranks as “malicious fabrications,” noting that if a so-called “faction of tanker drivers” truly existed, they would not have joined the nationwide strike directed by NUPENG—an action the union said was “effective, peaceful, and 100 percent successful.”

The union also alleged that despite signing the MoU, Dangote Refinery ordered the removal of NUPENG stickers from trucks, replacing them with insignia of the Direct Trucking Company Drivers Association (DTCDA)—a body NUPENG claims was created by management to undermine its influence.
