Soldier Detained By Police For Alleged Murder Of Young Man In Benue

The Benue State Police Command has apprehended a soldier in connection with the murder of a young man at the Dangote Cement Plant in Gboko.

Area Commander Edmund Afraimu confirmed the arrest of the soldier, named Aboy Bonny.

Eyewitnesses reported that the victim was shot dead through the back window of his car on the morning of September 9 while en route to work. According to witnesses, “The soldier fired at the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and crash into a nearby farm. The young man fell out of the driver’s seat and died on the spot.”

In response to the extrajudicial killing, local youths transported the victim’s body on a Bajaj motorcycle to the factory and staged a protest. They vandalized several vehicles parked near the factory entrance and laid the body at the entrance of the administrative block.

The situation was eventually brought under control thanks to the efforts of Gboko Local Government Council Chairman Verlumun Var and community leaders, who intervened to restore order.
