Sowore Sparks Controversy With Claims Moghalu Was Flogged After Losing Election
Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has stated that several young politicians who gained prominence during the 2019 presidential election have since become less active in Nigeria’s political space.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Sowore made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television, where he reflected on the political trajectories of some candidates who contested the 2019 presidency.
He said he remains one of the few youth-focused presidential candidates from that election who continues to actively participate in national politics.
According to him, figures such as Kingsley Moghalu and Fela Durotoye, who were highly visible during the 2019 campaign season, are no longer as prominent in current political engagements.
Sowore attributed his continued political involvement to the fact that he built and sustained his own political platform rather than relying solely on established party structures.
He argued that politicians who operate within existing parties often risk being sidelined when party leadership shifts or priorities change.
The activist also commented on challenges he said affected Moghalu’s political journey after the 2019 election.
He referenced internal party developments in 2022, claiming that Moghalu suffered a significant defeat in a party contest against another politician, Kachukwu.
Sowore alleged that following the outcome, Moghalu was taken to a hotel in Abeokuta associated with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, where he was reportedly humiliated.
“I remember Kingsley Moghalu was defeated by someone many had not heard of, Kachukwu, and afterwards they took him to Abeokuta, to Obasanjo’s hotel, where he was humiliated,” Sowore said.
He added that internal party struggles, political setbacks, and structural challenges may explain why some once-prominent presidential candidates have become less visible in Nigeria’s political landscape.
