He raised the alarm on Wednesday night at the Sultan’s Palace shortly after announcing that the Shawwal moon had not been sighted and declaring Friday, March 20, 2026, as Eid-el-Fitr.

Speaking in his roles as President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), the Sultan condemned the renewed attacks and urged the military and other security agencies to intensify efforts to decisively tackle terrorism and insurgency.

He stressed that the recent redeployment of security chiefs should go beyond routine exercises, calling for a more proactive approach that targets terrorists in their hideouts rather than waiting to respond after attacks.

According to a statement released by his media team, the Chairman of the National Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria (NTRCN) said the relocation of security leadership must not be symbolic.

He stated, “The relocation of Army and other security chiefs should not be ceremonial. Take the fight to the terrorists where they are. Do not wait for them to strike before responding. This is necessary if we are to achieve peace as a nation.”

The Sultan strongly condemned the latest bombings in Borno and called for a more decisive military response to eliminate the threat.

“We condemn this new wave of bomb attacks in the strongest terms and urge the military and security agencies to step up their efforts to nip terrorism and insurgency in the bud,” he said.

He also described the violence as contrary to Islamic teachings, insisting that such acts have no place in the religion and should not be associated with it.

The Sultan further called on the government to demonstrate stronger political will in protecting lives and property across the country, regardless of religion or ethnicity, and to decisively deal with criminal elements nationwide.

“We have always condemned these acts. They are un-Islamic and must not be linked to Islam. The government must show the necessary political will to ensure security for all citizens and eliminate criminal elements across the country,” he added.

He reaffirmed the commitment of traditional and religious leaders to promoting peace and unity, while urging the government to fulfil its primary responsibility of safeguarding the nation.

The Sultan concluded by extending condolences to the Borno State Government, the Kanem-Borno Emirate, and families of victims, praying for the souls of the deceased and wishing the injured a quick recovery.
