Suspected Kidnappers Apprehended By NSCDC In Ondo, Informant Also Arrested

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State has apprehended four individuals suspected of involvement in kidnapping activities, alongside one informant.

Revealing the development during a press briefing in Akure on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, NSCDC State Commandant Oluyemi Ibiloye stated that one suspect and the informant were captured in Eti-Ose, Owo Local Government Area, while the remaining three suspects were apprehended at the Ipele Forest Reserve, also in Owo Local Government Area.

Ibiloye credited the successful operation to the collaborative efforts of intelligence officers and operational units of the command, acting on credible intelligence. One of the alleged kidnappers was arrested following an exchange of gunfire with NSCDC personnel, while the captured informant was found to be involved in marijuana cultivation in Eti-Ose.

He emphasized that three individuals previously subjected to ransom payments by the suspects had come forward to identify them, with others in the process of being extorted similarly identified. Among the items confiscated from the suspects were four locally crafted firearms, assorted charms, and various other dangerous implements.

Furthermore, the individual implicated in both kidnapping and marijuana cultivation will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for prosecution regarding the latter offense.

Ibiloye reiterated the NSCDC’s commitment to eradicating crime in Ondo State, cautioning potential wrongdoers to either exit the state or reconsider their criminal pursuits.
