This call was made during a meeting with the Head of Operations of ICRC, Mohamedoun Mohammed, at the Government House in Damaturu on Thursday.
Represented by his Deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, the governor emphasized that while the state had received interventions for victims of insurgency, what is currently needed is empowerment that can sustainably improve their lives.
Governor Buni acknowledged the valuable contributions of the ICRC to the state’s Resettlement, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction programs, particularly during the peak of the insurgency.
Mohamedoun Mohammed, the Head of Operations of ICRC, explained that the purpose of his visit was to become familiar with the ICRC’s programs in Yobe State, with a specific focus on livelihood support.
Additionally, the ICRC aims to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to protect and assist affected individuals, including Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
He mentioned that ICRC has executed various projects, especially in Gaidam and Buni Yadi, to facilitate the resettlement of IDPs, and they have plans to assist recent victims of Boko Haram attacks in the Unguro-kayayya community of Gaidam local government area.
