Tambuwal stated that the decision by the two opposition figures to leave the ADC was purely personal and should not be viewed as a sign of division within the party.
He made the remarks on Friday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.
The exit of Obi, Kwankwaso and some federal lawmakers had sparked concerns among political observers that the ADC-led opposition coalition might be experiencing internal tensions ahead of the general elections.
However, Tambuwal rejected the notion, suggesting that both politicians may have chosen another platform to test their political strength and popularity with Nigerian voters.
According to him, their departure had nothing to do with any crack within the ADC.
The former governor also dismissed allegations that the party’s presidential structure had been skewed in favour of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Following the defections, some political commentators claimed the direction of the party had already been predetermined before the contest fully commenced.
Responding to the allegations, Tambuwal noted that neither Obi nor Kwankwaso publicly accused the ADC of bias or unfairness.
He maintained that under the leadership of former Senate President David Mark, who currently chairs the ADC, all aspirants would have enjoyed a level playing field.
Tambuwal further defended David Mark’s credibility, insisting that none of the politicians who exited the coalition could question his integrity or fairness.
He explained that stakeholder participation within the ADC remained inclusive and transparent, adding that no member had been excluded from the party’s decision-making process.
According to him, Peter Obi was even allowed to nominate a key official within the party structure by producing the current National Organising Secretary.
Tambuwal also challenged claims that the ADC leadership was dominated by loyalists of Atiku Abubakar.
He questioned critics to identify any major national office within the party currently occupied by someone openly aligned with Atiku, noting that Obi’s camp was given control of the strategic office of National Organising Secretary, which he described as the “engine room” of the party.
