Tension In APC As Akpabio, Governors Clash Over Control Of Senatorial Nominations

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, his deputy Jibrin Barau, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, and Senate Chief Whip Mohammed Tahir Monguno are among the prominent politicians set to participate in today’s All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primaries.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Also in the race are several serving governors seeking APC senatorial tickets, including Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, and Gombe State Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya.

Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello is also contesting for the Kogi Central senatorial ticket, where he is expected to face the incumbent senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In Gombe State, former governor and serving senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo is seeking to retain his seat, where he may also contend with Governor Inuwa Yahaya.

Other former governors in the contest include Jolly Nyame of Taraba State, Simon Lalong of Plateau State, and Danjuma Goje of Gombe State.

Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has also joined the race for the Delta Central senatorial seat.

Some Aspirants Emerge Unopposed
Reports indicate that several Senate leaders have secured unopposed nominations in their constituencies, while many serving governors are said to have reached consensus arrangements ahead of the primaries.

The APC commenced its primaries on Saturday with House of Representatives aspirants, ahead of today’s senatorial elections.

The party has also constituted primary appeal committees across the states to handle any complaints arising from the process.

In a statement, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka urged committee members to ensure fairness and justice in their duties.

The party further directed officials deployed from Abuja to use indirect primaries in areas where stakeholders failed to reach consensus.
