Tension In CAC: Calls Grow For Immediate Review Of Flawed Promotion Test

Concerned stakeholders within the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) have appealed to the management to suspend plans for a new promotion examination until the disputed 2023/2024 exercise is properly reviewed and resolved.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The group described the move to initiate another exam as premature, unfair, and demoralising, arguing that lingering controversies from the last promotion round continue to erode trust and create internal unrest among staff.

According to them, although the supervising Ministry reportedly vetted the process and granted administrative approval, such endorsement does not address the credibility concerns surrounding the 2023/2024 examination.

The stakeholders alleged that several deserving officers were unfairly denied promotion, while others with questionable results were elevated without clear justification.

A major source of contention, they noted, was the unusual delay in releasing the results. Unlike previous years when exams conducted at JAMB centres produced instant, transparent results, the 2023/2024 outcome was withheld for several weeks, sparking suspicions of manipulation.

They claimed the delay appeared deliberate, suggesting that some results may have been tampered with to favour certain individuals. In some cases, officers who were promoted reportedly shared scores that did not align with expected performance levels, further fuelling distrust.

The group lamented that the controversy has deepened divisions within the Commission, resulting in low morale, workplace sabotage, and declining commitment to new initiatives.

Many staff members, they added, feared intimidation and harassment, preventing them from speaking out earlier.

The stakeholders maintained that JAMB-supervised examinations guarantee transparency, professionalism, and immediate results, unlike the alternative centres used in 2023/2024, which they believe are vulnerable to manipulation.

They urged the Commission to rely only on original results from the examination centres and disregard any figures that may have been altered post-exam.

Warning against moving ahead with a fresh exam, they argued that doing so would bury the injustice suffered by those who passed but were denied promotion.

They also stressed that since performance levels can vary from year to year, it would be unfair to subject affected officers to another test without resolving the existing dispute.

Consequently, the group called for an independent review committee comprising representatives from the supervising Ministry, the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, and relevant staff unions to investigate the conduct, results, and complaints surrounding the 2023/2024 promotion examination.
