In an official statement signed by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Samson R. Osagie, the government issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Ifaluyi-Isibor to publicly retract and apologize for what it described as a criminally defamatory publication targeting the current administration.
The controversy stems from a post shared on Ifaluyi-Isibor’s verified Facebook page, which has been widely circulated on social media since June 6, 2025. The post accuses the current administration of irregularities, including claims that only three Executive Council meetings have been held in eight months and that Governor Monday Okpebholo predominantly resides in Abuja, allegedly manipulating contract processes from there.
It also suggests that state funds are being secretly saved to settle a potential Supreme Court judgment relating to contracts from the past administration.
Osagie described the claims as baseless, malicious, and a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the governor and his cabinet. He emphasized that the administration has convened numerous Executive Council meetings, resulting in key infrastructure developments such as the ongoing flyover projects in Benin City.
The government warned that failure by Ifaluyi-Isibor to issue a public retraction and apology within the stipulated time would trigger both civil and criminal proceedings.
