State Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, clarified that Bayero will instead observe his Friday prayers at the mosque within the Nasarawa Palace, where he currently resides. Meanwhile, the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, is expected to lead the Jummah prayers at the Central Mosque.
Kano City had been rife with tension due to reports that the two rival emirs intended to lead the Jumaat prayers at the same mosque, raising fears of conflict between their supporters.
In a phone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Gumel dismissed these reports as false. He urged the public to disregard the misinformation circulating on social media and assured residents that the police, alongside other security agencies, would ensure a secure environment for peaceful prayers.
“The police call on the public to ignore these false claims and continue with their activities without fear of harassment or intimidation,” he stated. “We will continue to provide the necessary security to ensure that the Friday prayers are observed peacefully, without any threat to lives or property.”
He also urged the public to report any suspicious activity, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in maintaining security across the state.
