Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, has clarified that the group’s focus remains solely on the political future of its leader, Peter Obi, and is not affiliated with any political party.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Tanko made this statement in response to Julius Abure’s call for Obidient members to register with the Labour Party and become official members. Speaking to The Sun, Tanko emphasized that the Obidient Movement is not interested in any “olive branch” offered by political parties and reiterated that such an offer has never been a priority or discussed within the movement.
He explained, “There is no need for any olive branch to be extended to us, as we have not left the party. Only those who have left the party can be asked to return. As of now, I am still a member of the Labour Party. What we are doing is housing the Obidient Movement as a group, similar to what we had with PDM. Many in PDM were members of the PDP, but some were not.”
Tanko further clarified that some members of the Obidient Movement might remain within the Labour Party, while others may choose different paths. “Some of our members are in APC, some in other parties, and some are technocrats who don’t belong to any political party but are still Obidient,” he stated.
He strongly rejected the idea that the movement’s objective was to become part of any political party, saying, “The call for us to register as members of a political party is a deviation from our core mission. We didn’t ask for it, and we won’t join issues with anyone. We are simply focused on what we are doing.”
