Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio over his remarks concerning political defections in Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Sowore questioned Akpabio’s authority to speak on the issue, arguing that his own political history makes him unfit to judge others on matters of party switching.
He made the comments during an interview on Symfoni TV, while responding to Akpabio’s remarks about a politician believed to be former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who was referenced in discussions around party defections. Sowore maintained that Akpabio should not be in a position to criticize others over political loyalty.
According to him, Akpabio has changed political parties more frequently than many politicians in the country, making it contradictory for him to question others on consistency or loyalty.
Sowore further argued that party defections have become a common feature of Nigerian politics, largely driven by personal ambition rather than ideological differences between parties. He said this reflects a broader lack of clear political principles within major parties.
“If anybody in this nation has defected more than Akpabio, it is him, in my opinion. What kind of moral authority does he have?” Sowore stated.
