Chijioke Edeoga, the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party (LP), is contesting Mbah’s victory in the tribunal.
The three-member tribunal, led by Justice Kudirat Morayo Akano, announced the judgment date for today, commencing at 9 a.m.
Among the key points of contention brought by Edeoga and the LP are the authenticity of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate presented by Mbah, whose election victory was declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
They also allege that Mbah did not fulfill his mandatory youth service obligations before assuming a political position in 2003, and they question the validity of the votes cast during the electoral process.
The petitioners have raised allegations of widespread electoral malpractice and rigging, particularly in Owo and Ugbawka wards in Nkanu East, Enugu East, and Udenu local governments. They claim that computation errors resulted in a reduction of their votes in these areas.
During the hearing, both parties presented witnesses and evidence that were admitted as exhibits, leading to vigorous legal arguments and citations.
Security sources have indicated that comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place by various law enforcement agencies, led by the Police, to prevent any disruptions of law and order during the tribunal’s judgment delivery.
