Tension Rises: Labour Party Hints At Possible Sack Of Peter Obi, Alex Otti In Next NEC Showdown
The Deputy National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Ayo Olorunfemi, has confirmed that critical decisions—such as the possible expulsion of key party figures like the 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti—will be made during the party’s upcoming National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This follows recent remarks by LP’s factional National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, who claimed that Obi faces imminent expulsion for allegedly acting against the party’s interests.
During a July 8, 2025, appearance on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, Arabambi accused Obi of backing the coalition-aligned African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating that holding allegiance to two political parties is unconstitutional.
Despite his involvement in the ADC’s launch, Obi has maintained that he remains a member of the Labour Party.
Speaking with Punch, Olorunfemi reiterated that the party’s NEC will decide the fate of members accused of anti-party conduct. However, no specific date has been scheduled for the meeting.
“We are due for another NEC meeting, especially given the latest developments,” he said. “We need to get direction from the party’s highest decision-making bodies. While a date has not yet been fixed, we are consulting, and that meeting will address issues concerning Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti.”
