Tensions Soar As American Congressman Demands Trump Blacklist Nigeria Over Alarming Concerns
A United States lawmaker, Rep. Riley M. Moore, representing West Virginia’s Second District, has called on President Donald Trump to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a letter dated October 6, 2025, and addressed to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Moore urged the US government to suspend arms sales and technical support to Nigeria until the Nigerian authorities “demonstrate genuine commitment to ending persecution and mass killings.”
The congressman alleged that between January and September 2025 alone, over 7,000 Christians were brutally killed by “Muslim extremist groups.” He further claimed that since 2015, at least 250 Catholic priests have been attacked or murdered across the country.
Citing data, Moore noted that from the Boko Haram insurgency in 2009 up to 2025, no fewer than 19,100 churches in Nigeria had been attacked or destroyed.
Trump had previously designated Nigeria as a CPC during his first term in office, but the decision was reversed by his successor, former President Joe Biden.
Meanwhile, prominent voices such as US Senator Ted Cruz, television host Bill Maher, and political analyst Van Jones have echoed concerns, alleging that Nigeria is facing what they described as a “Christian genocide.”
Speaking on a recent podcast with Bill Maher, Senator Cruz alleged that Christians were being systematically targeted and killed in Nigeria, insisting the situation amounted to genocide.
However, the Nigerian government has consistently dismissed such claims, maintaining that the country’s security crisis does not single out any religious group.
