It will be recalled that on May 14, Southeast PDP leaders issued a communique warning they might exit the party if Ude-Okoye was not retained in his position.

A source speaking to Punch revealed that the Southeast caucus believes the PDP risks losing its stronghold in the region if concerns raised by its stakeholders are not addressed. Governor Mbah, during the meeting, reportedly criticized the marginalization of the Southeast in party affairs and stressed that the zone had long been a backbone of the PDP.

The source said, “The governor emphasized that retaining Ude-Okoye as National Secretary is essential for maintaining the party’s influence in the Southeast. He expressed disappointment over the lack of adequate recognition given to the region and reminded the panel how the Southeast, under then Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, helped revive the PDP during its 2015 crisis. He insisted the region must be given a more significant role in the party’s structure.”
