Those to be summoned include General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff; Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff; Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff; and Air Marshall Hassan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff.
Simultaneously, the Senate extended invitations to the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
The senators urged security agencies to take proactive measures to secure the release of the kidnapped female students and the corps members held captive by terrorists in Zamfara State.
They called on the military to conduct special operations to combat bandits in the North-West and other regions of the country. Additionally, they emphasized the necessity for the federal government to address the personnel shortage in the armed forces and police.
The senators also underscored the importance of establishing state police as a potential solution to the nation’s security challenges.
However, a specific date for the planned meeting with the service chiefs has not yet been scheduled.
Recall that suspected terrorists kidnapped five female students from the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) in Katsina State on Wednesday.
The students were abducted from their residence located behind Mariamoh Ajiri Memorial International School along Tsaskiya Road, reportedly in the early hours of Wednesday at about 2:30 a.m.
The Police Spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the incident and noted that one suspect had been arrested, with ongoing efforts to rescue the abductees from the perpetrators.
