They Don’t Live There — Lagos Authorities Break Silence On Viral Oja Oba Bridge Video

The Lagos State Government has dismissed a viral video purportedly showing people living under the Oja Oba Bridge, describing the footage as outdated and insisting that it does not reflect the current situation at the location.

The government’s clarification followed the circulation of the video on social media, where it was presented as evidence that people were currently residing under the bridge.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, addressed the development after his attention was drawn to the viral footage by an X user. He explained that the video was recorded approximately two years ago and should not be interpreted as a representation of the present condition of the area.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Wahab urged bloggers, influencers and other media platforms to verify the authenticity and timing of materials before publishing or sharing them with the public.

The commissioner warned that circulating old or misleading content as recent information could create unnecessary concern among residents and place additional pressure on government agencies and officials responsible for maintaining the environment.

He further reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to ensuring that public spaces across the state remain clean, safe and environmentally sustainable.

Wahab also appealed to residents to support the government’s efforts by sharing only accurate and verified information, stressing the importance of responsible information dissemination in preventing the spread of misleading narratives.
