1. 2. The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will resume negotiations on September 6 to address outstanding issues in the university teachers’ demands. Education Minister Prof. Tahir Mamman announced this following a closed-door meeting with ASUU President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke.
3. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will soon submit a revised Whistleblowing Bill to the National Assembly, according to Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister for the Economy Mr. Wale Edun. The minister reported that the Federal Government has recovered approximately N83 billion, $609 million, and 5.5 million euros since the introduction of the whistleblowing policy in 2017.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has ordered all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to complete the mandatory verification and linkage of SIM cards to National Identification Numbers (NINs) by September 14, 2024. This directive was announced in a statement by Mr. Reuben Muoka, Director of Public Affairs at the NCC.
5. According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), flooding this year has resulted in 179 deaths across 15 states and displaced 208,655 people in 22 states. The agency’s 2024 Flood Updates report also noted the destruction of 107,652 hectares of farmland and 80,049 houses.

Members of the banned Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shiites, have accused the police of killing four of their members and removing their bodies during a clash near Wuse Market in Abuja last Sunday. IMN Secretary of the Academic Forum Ibrahim Abdullahi Musa refuted the police’s accusations of killings by their members, stating that three members were killed at Wuse Market and the fourth in the Mabushi area.
7. Two people died on Tuesday when a truck traveling against traffic collided with another truck on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway in Ogun State. A traffic official revealed that one victim was driving in the wrong direction at high speed when the collision occurred, resulting in both fatalities.
8. The Lagos State Police Command has rescued a 25-year-old man (name withheld) who was abducted on Tuesday in the Oke Moro, Ishashi area of Lagos. On Wednesday, three suspects—Edem Chucks, Oluwatobi Adeniji, and Emmanuel Ebere—were arrested by officers of the Ishashi Police Division in connection with the abduction.
9. The National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osun State has launched an investigation into the abduction of a five-month-old baby from a farm in Agbeye town. The baby was left under a tree while the mother gathered firewood but was missing upon her return.
10. Sixteen people were killed in an auto crash at Ajue community on the Ore-Ondo highway in Ondo State. Three others were seriously injured, while two people reportedly escaped without harm.
