Timaya noted that this ease contrasts sharply with the struggles faced by earlier generations of musicians, who had to rely heavily on major record labels and traditional media for exposure.

He said:

“It’s much easier now for today’s artists to blow. Back then, how could you even dream of blowing? Everything was controlled by one or two key players.

“Take for example the ‘Odeshi’ track I did with Flavour—Premier Music held the catalogue. Even when we wanted to use ‘Can I Have a Dance,’ we had to go back to them and pay again.

“These days, someone’s parent can just buy studio gear, they make a great track at home, post it online, and boom—a hit! Just one TikTok video and they’re made. All they need is data.

“In our time, even getting your song on radio was a major challenge. But now? Just upload and go. It’s faster and easier to go viral. I like it, but since I didn’t start that way, it’s still tough for me. Posting and promoting online feels stressful sometimes, but it’s part of the business, so I do it.”
