Tinubu Administration To Implement Cybercrime Legislation In Full Swing
The administration led by Bola Tinubu is gearing up to initiate the complete enforcement of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention) Act of 2024, amended to combat the use of social media by terrorists. This announcement was made by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, in a statement released on Thursday through Zakari Mijinyawa, the Head of Strategic Communications at the Office of the NSA.
Ribadu further directed all law enforcement agencies, regulators, businesses, and stakeholders in the nation to ensure the effective implementation of this enforcement. The directive follows the recent high-level African International Counter Terrorism Meeting held in Abuja between April 22 and 23, 2024.
During this gathering, African leaders emphasized the necessity for enhanced support and resources to bolster cybersecurity efforts across the continent. They also stressed the importance of taking proactive measures to curb the utilization of social media and similar platforms by terrorists and organized criminal entities.
