Tinubu Gave The Order, Alia Failed To Act – Ortom Reveals Saboteurs Behind Benue Crisis
Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has alleged that foreign actors are behind the ongoing violence in the state, identifying attackers from countries like Chad, Niger, Senegal, Mali, and Libya as participants in the unrest.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Ortom expressed concern over the federal government’s delay in implementing President Bola Tinubu’s security directives issued during his recent visit to the state.
Recall that President Tinubu, while visiting Benue on June 18 following the deadly Yelewata attack that claimed over 100 lives, instructed former governors and traditional rulers to collaborate with Governor Hyacinth Alia to address the insecurity.
However, Ortom revealed that no such meeting or coordination has occurred since the president’s visit. He stressed the urgency of action, especially given his personal ties to the affected area.
“No meeting has been held so far. We are still waiting for the governor to initiate one,” Ortom said. “Benue is our state. We can’t sit back and watch this continue.”
Speaking about the Yelewata massacre, he said, “Over 200 people were killed in Yelewata. That’s my local government. My paternal grandmother hails from there—it’s my home. We’re ready to support any effort by the governor if he calls on us.”
Ortom further claimed that some locals had colluded with foreign elements to orchestrate the attacks, describing the situation as a deliberate plot to displace an entire population.
“This is an intentional move to exterminate a specific group of people,” he said. “That’s the bitter truth.”
While commending President Tinubu for personally visiting the massacre site and ordering security agencies to act, Ortom criticized the previous administration for turning a blind eye to such atrocities.
“When the Yelewata incident occurred, this government—unlike the last—sent the President himself. He gave a directive for security agencies to go after the perpetrators. That never happened under the previous government,” Ortom added.
