President Bola Tinubu has authorized $1.7 billion for International Development Association (IDA) financing and ₦4.8 billion for the expansion of HIV/AIDS treatment.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The IDA, the World Bank’s fund designated for the world’s poorest nations, was mentioned by the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, in a statement shared on his X account on Tuesday.

Professor Pate emphasized that these approvals signify significant investments in Nigeria’s health and human capital sectors, marking a crucial step in improving healthcare delivery and overall health outcomes for Nigerians.

“This decision marks a pivotal milestone in advancing healthcare governance, enhancing primary healthcare services, and bridging key gaps in human capital development,” he said.

The allocated funds will be utilized in collaboration with all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in accordance with the sector-wide policy and the Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative. The funds will aid in the recruitment, training, and retention of healthcare workers at the subnational level, aiming to improve the accessibility, responsiveness, and sustainability of healthcare services.

Regarding the ₦4.8 billion for HIV/AIDS, the Minister revealed that the funds would be used to purchase 150,000 HIV treatment packs over the next four months.

He emphasized that this move reaffirms President Tinubu’s dedication to sustaining life-saving treatment and ensuring continued access to care for vulnerable populations.
