Tinubu Storms APC NEC Meeting Today Amid High-Stakes Party Shakeup
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to lead key figures of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the party’s much-anticipated National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting today, Thursday, in Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This marks the first major APC leadership gathering since the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari and will include a short tribute in his memory.
Expected to accompany President Tinubu are Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, APC governors (serving and former), and members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
The meeting, scheduled at the State House Conference Centre, is seen as pivotal in shaping the party’s direction ahead of the 2027 general elections. A key item on the agenda is the selection of a substantive National Chairman to succeed Abdullahi Ganduje, who stepped down following health-related consultations.
Although the party has yet to confirm his replacement, today’s meeting is expected to provide much-needed clarity amid swirling speculations.
In a break from tradition, the APC national caucus meeting — usually held a day before NEC sessions — was cancelled due to logistical concerns. Instead, today’s NEC meeting has been expanded to include caucus members, ensuring broader stakeholder engagement.
According to party insiders, deliberations will also touch on APC’s internal finances, electoral strategy, and reconciliation efforts in states facing intra-party rifts. The meeting will further help consolidate the party’s position against ongoing opposition realignments.
Under the APC constitution, the NEC includes a wide array of top-ranking members, such as national and deputy national officers, zonal leaders, state party chairmen, and key national assembly figures. The president, vice-president, Senate president, speaker of the House of Representatives, governors, and other high-ranking officials also form part of the NEC.
Additionally, each geopolitical zone is represented by nominated senators and House members, as well as ex-officio and BoT leaders. The constitution further provides for a national caucus comprising former presidents and VPs, current and former national officers, governors, top legislative figures, SGF, and others.
Today’s session is expected to chart the path for the party’s internal cohesion and long-term political dominance.
